I upgraded the 400 course computer (located inside DC panel) with the external rate gyro. I placed this under the forward main cabin seat, right where the table legs are stowed. (Mounted transversely). I hooked it up to DC and Seatalk, and the analog outputs to the 400 course computer. Heading went BERSERK, as the compass was also hooked to the 400 directly. It did "autolearn" the boats behavior, and does a nice job of wing on wing w/o a pole in 1-2 foot seas. I have since cut the seatalk internconnect to the course computer / rate gyro and heading is fine. I haven't used the autopilot much without it, but my friend's 1999 Catalina 40 with the 300 course computer says mine is much better.
: I am very satisfied with the Radar overlay on the chartplotter and with the MARPA stability.
