My wife and I currently own a 1987 Catalina 36. In the next five years however, we plan to sell her and purchase a C42 MKII and then sail extensively in the Caribbean, and possibly elsewhere. I wanted to get opinions from current 42 owners as to what you would do re: structural and/or rigging modifications before setting out on an extended cruise that could include some bluewater sailing. There's no doubt that Catalina builds a quality yacht (we love our 36) but I would have to believe that there are certain steps that could and maybe should be taken to strengthen the boat and prepare her for more than basic coastal cruising. I'm very interested in hearing what current owners think and what your experiences and opinions are on this subject. Thanks to all, and have a great sailing season.
