: I installed a Frigoboat, Keel cooler system on "Carina" this spring before launch, replacing an aging R12 based Adler Barbour unit that had given 13 years of service. With the help of a local distributor we sized the system using the K35F compressor, the 340B evaporator and the standard keel cooler unit (fastens with one big nut). I installed the compressor where the previous Adler Barbour was, on the shelf in the starboard lazarette (it took up 1/3 the space). As the run from the ice box is 15 ft I needed to add the 6 ft pre-charged extension tube. The keel cooler needs to be within 5 ft of the compressor and I was lucky to have a thru hull fitting from a former watermaker (long removed) that I took out and enlarged the hole. This was pretty much directly at the bottom of that starboard lazarette. The connections go together very easy, two wrenches, not even a hiss and can be disconnected without losing any refrigerant, very slick. The evaporator is a little larger than the orginal one but still fit in ok. As the unit has no fan the power consumption is lower, can't tell you exactly how much we consume though, but the beer is cold and I can have an unlimited supply of ice cubes. The system is so quiet you need to put your hand on the compressor to tell if it is running.

: Has anyone had any experience with the Frigoboat line of refrigeration, especially their "keel cooler" units?
