Another way to create non-skid is with sand and varnish. You can get a fine grained sand mixture and then apply it between a couple coats of varnish. This creates a non-skid surface and also allows for better looking steps.
: We would like to install a non-skid surface that is reasonably attractive on our companionway steps. Has anyone had experience with this? The only thing I have found to date is black, white or gray pressure sensitive tape.
