If you can't get your engine above 2000 rpm and there's black soot near your exhaust you are lugging the engine which is not very good for it. It definitly sounds like you have to much propellor. Mine is an 18 X 12 Fixed 3 bladed. I can rev my engine up to 4000 rpm and intend to replace it with a folding prop that will put more load on the engine so that I can't exceed 3800. I have heard that a folding prop will allow you to sail 1/2-1 knot faster, reduce prop walk.

I did a little research and from other peoples experience I think that the one that was the most preferred was a Martec 20" 3 bladed feathering prop. I think that further down in this forum props are discussed in detail.

What are other peoples opinions about what feathering prop is the best? Size, pitch etc?
