Catalina 42 Discussion Forum and WWWBoard Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Here is a brief explanation of some of the questions you may have about this Forum.

All posts must be of lower case with capitalization.

Please compose all posts (messages) in lower case. Please capitalize the first letter of each sentence. Please follow these guidelines also for the Subject. All uppercase is very difficult to read. On the Internet, all uppercase is considered shouting. It is, however, acceptable to capitalize A word if you wish to STRESS it. All posts in all uppercase will be deleted.

Tips in searching inside of messages

If you want to search this entire site, bring up http://www.google.com and enter:
site:www.catalina42.org cutter         or, replace "cutter" with the item you want to search for, like:
site:www.catalina42.org anchor riding sail

Use the following as a template:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.catalina42.org+bimini&btnG=Google+Search

When posting a follow up, put the new text at the beginning of the Comments box.

It is much easier reading posts if the new text is before the text being responded to.

Can I list items for sale?

It is acceptable to list sailing items for sale or sailing items wanted. Be sure to include your correct email address so interested parties can contact you directly. If it is a large heavy item, please specify at least the State it is sold from. Please don't post a message on the Forum with text such as "how much", "email me with ...". If an interested party needs more information, they should send an email to the originator of the post, NOT on the forum. All posts without a valid email link will be deleted, as there is no way to contact the originator.

PLEASE--Send me an email when the item is sold or when you have purchased the wanted item so the message may be deleted from the forum. Please specify the message number (from the Address line) and send it to:
thecaptain101@hotmail.com

Why did I get "Page Not Found"?

If you're sure you still have a good Internet connection and get "Page Not Found" (try it a few times) message, it could be that message has been deleted. Quite often, members posts messages, they don't see the message, then re-post the same message. The 1st (redundant) message is usually deleted, but still shows up in the list of Follow Ups.

Why didn't my post show up?

Your post most likely did not show up, because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache. Please reload your browser or click "refresh" and it should then appear.

How do I post a photo?

You 1st need to upload the photo to a web site. It is recommended you email Norm at thecaptain101@hotmail.com with the photo as a jpg attachment file less than about 200KB and less than 800 pixels in the width. It will be stored on the C42 web site. An email will be returned specifying the URL of the photo. This URL string must then be "pasted" in the "Optional Image URL:" field. This will display the photo immediately once someone opens the post. An example would be http://catalina42.org/wwwboard/messages/80.html

Another option is to upload the photo, as above. The URL string could be "pasted" in the "Optional Link URL:" field. You would then enter a few words about the link in the "Link Title:" field. An example would be http://catalina42.org/wwwboard/messages/104.html

Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts?

No. You can not use HTML tags in any field except body of the message. Feel free to try tags inside the body, most work. As an example, to get red text, enter:
<font color="#FF0000">this is red</font>

Why are there colons in the message when I try to post a follow up?

Colons appear in the message dialog box when you try to follow up on a message to indicate that those lines are quoting the previous document.

Where can I get the scripts for this program?

The scripts are written in Perl and created by Matt Wright. They are free to anyone who wishes to use them and you can get them as well as other scripts at: http://worldwidemart.com/scripts/. Enjoy!
